With spaces in Bendigo and Castlemaine we specialise in working with couples, children and adolescents, along with a broad spectrum of evidence-based psychological interventions for mental health issues related to Depression, Anxiety, Trauma and Addiction through the lifespan.
Island Psychology aims to offer a place of safe refuge amidst the chaotic sea of life that often surrounds us. Through using therapy we hope to help clients ground themselves in the present and come to accept and acknowledge the things that are not within our control and attend and focus on building meaning through the things that are in our control.
There are main stages and skills that a child traverses on the road to adulthood. Development is not a straight line and for many children, adolescents and families there are numerous challenges along the road. At Island Psychology we use a range of evidence-based interventions when working with children and adolescents relative to their presenting issues, always keeping in mind that the young person is still part of a family system.
The therapists have experience working with Social Difficulties, Attachment Concerns, Emotional Dysregulation, Developmental Differences, Mood Disorder, Behavioural Concerns and Neurodivergence (Autism & ADHD). Clinicians are neurodiversity affirming and approach support understanding the social model of disability.
Depression is a common mental health concern. It can be hard to motivate yourself to seek help and engage in the therapy as feelings of hopelessness dominate depression. However working with a therapist can help you manage the symptoms and support you to make steps independent of the depression. Psychologists work with the client to reconnect with what's important to them and share strategies to assist the client to act in ways that will improve their sense of self worth.
Research shows that psychological therapies are the most effective option for people with Anxiety (Beyond Blue). The therapists at Island Psychology have years of experience working with clients experiencing a variety of different anxiety disorders. We work with the clients to gain insight into how the anxiety is currently impacting their life and come up with clear goals for therapy based on how to manage the anxiety and live a life of meaning and purpose.

Island Psychology aims to provide a safe place for people to talk about traumatic experiences that may be continuing to impact their lives. Trauma Therapy recognises and empathises understanding of how the traumatic experience impacts mental, behavioural, emotional and physical wellbeing. The purpose of therapy is to offer skills and strategies to assist the client to better understand, cope with, and process memories and emotions tied to the traumatic event. All this is done with the goal of enabling the client to have a more adaptive and meaningful sense of themselves and the experiences that have taken place in their life.
